TrialDirector single-user licensing allows you to install one copy of the software on your computer. You may install a second copy of the software onto your laptop computer at a later date, if you need to move the data to take it to trial. Remember that the single-user license agreement prohibits you from using the software on more than one computer at the same time. If you exceed two installations, the program will not install again unless you obtain additional activations by calling inData's technical support number at 866-419-4298.
Please note that installing the single-user software on another individual's computer is a violation of the licensing agreement. You may purchase another license of TrialDirector from inData's Web site or by calling 800-828-8292.
Yes, you can annotate PDF images without installing Adobe Acrobat or an additional plug-in installed on your computer. Remember, however, that you cannot insert pages, insert document breaks, or remove document breaks on PDF files within TrialDirector.

For detailed instructions, refer to the Help file in TrialDirector or the TrialDirector 6 Quick Start Guide.
You can provide simple excerpts from DVT clips to the courts, counsel, or clients. The excerpts are provided in MPEG format, and can be viewed on any computer, without the need to have TrialDirector installed. Full details are provided in the Help file topic Generate Excerpts from Clips. A summary appears below.
The case copy feature is handy when you need to backup or move a TrialDirector case database. Below are the general steps to copy a case:
Note 1: Only the files located within the TrialDirector case folder are copied to the new location. Exhibit files (such as photos or transcripts) are not copied. See the Help topic Moving and Copying Files for simple exhibit copying & sharing techniques.
Note 2: Secure cases that are copied still maintain the username/password information.
TrialDirector 6 is considered a full upgrade for existing TrialDirector 5.x users. Please contact inData Corporation sales at (800) 828-8292 for more information.

Netbooks are also known as mini-laptops or sub-notebooks and are becoming very popular for on-the-go users who require mobile broadband access. While Netbooks are an inexpensive, convenient platform they do not provide enough power to run TrialDirector 6 presentations. Most Netbooks ship with an Intel Atom CPU and only 1-2GB of RAM. Additionally, the integrated graphics on Netbooks are not sufficient for running a compelling multimedia presentation in TrialDirector 6. Therefore, we do not recommend running TrialDirector 6 on the Netbook platform.
Prior to running a MultiPlayer workbook, open the Presentation Preferences dialog and establish the following settings within the Exhibits tab:
DVT Play Options:
Presentation Play Options:
Establishing these settings above will allow multimedia and DVT clips to play back-to-back when presenting a MultiPlayer Workbook
TrialDirector 6 now includes 2 unique document page view options: Multipage View and Single Page View. These options can set within the Exhibits tab of the Presentation Preferences dialog.
Using the Single Page View will allow the user to navigate the document and easily display side-by-side pages using the CTRL+Page Down or CTRL+ Page Down keystroke. This view limits the view to one page of a document at a time.
Using the Multipage View allows the user to navigate a document as a whole, in a manner similar to Adobe Acrobat. The Page Up, Page Down, Arrow Keys and Mouse Wheel can all be used to navigate the document in this mode. Additionally, the user can scroll in between 2 pages of a document in order easily present content that spans multiple pages.
The ability to display live Internet content, via a URL, within Presentation Mode has been depreciated in TrialDirector 6.
Customers who pay for maintenance are entitled to receive updates to TrialDirector 5 within version numbers at no extra charge. The most current version of TrialDirector is Version 5.2.
inData attempts to release two major updates per year, along with patches. You can obtain these updates in one of three ways:
This update process will not work for clients whose maintenance has lapsed or who own older versions of TrialDirector (Version 4.5 or lower). In these situations, you can obtain the current version by calling inData at 800-828-8292.
Yes. TrialDirector Version 5.2 includes an MPEG-2 codec that is loaded onto the end-user's computer during the installation process. This guarantees an excellent video viewing experience for MPEG-2 files. Version 5.2 also includes a new DVD Extractor utility that will convert DVD-VOB files to MPEG-2. TrialDirector v5.2 also supports MPEG-1, MPEG-4, and QuickTime video file types.
Previous versions of TrialDirector (e.g. version 5.1) will work with MPEG-2 or VOB video files provided the user has a proper MPEG-2 codec installed on their computer.
Beginning in version 5.2, you can play up to four (4) videos simultaneously. One of those videos must be a digital video transcript.

This import requires a special configuration. The procedure is described in our Summation Import Tech Tips document.
The timeline can be saved as an image file, such as .jpg or .gif, which can then be viewed without the TimelineXpress application. To save a timeline as an image file, go to the File menu, then select export to image file, then select a file type. The available file types are .PDF, .JPG, .TIF, and .BMP. You can also save a timeline as an HTML file, however, without TimelineXpress, you will not be able to edit the timeline.
The text file used for import into TimelineXpress must be a comma separated, quote delimited text file with a header row. The header row must contain a "Date" field, some type of caption field and some type of description field.
In order to preserve all of the timeline features, a duplicate of the timeline folder must be created on the second computer. This folder must contain copies of all attached item files. The .tlf file needs to be at the same level as the folder containing the attached items, NOT inside the items folder. TimeLineXpress will look first for a folder of the same name in the same location for the attached events.
First, open DocumentDirector and locate the document that you would like to appear on the timeline. After it has been selected, open TimelineXpress, then go to Tools > Event Exhibit Manager. Add a new event, and then right click on the event and select Link Current Event to TrialDirector Item.
By going to the File menu and selecting Print, you can choose how many pages the printing takes up, you can also choose to print only the current section of the timeline, or print the entire timeline. You can also choose the orientation of the timeline on the printed page, and you can change the size of the page and preview it before printing.
Use the inData Digital Video Disc (DVD) Extractor provided with TimeCoder Pro v5.2. This utility is designed to transcode DVD-Video to compliant MPEG-2 Program Streams. Extracting the contents of the DVD-Video to MPEG-2 Program Streams facilitates the process to accurately synchronize and author new DepoView DVDs. This extraction process also ensures that the resulting DepoView DVD will synchronize as accurately as it originally did in TimeCoder Pro when played back.
Yes. TimeCoder Pro 5.2 can synchronize directly from raw DV-AVI video and use it as a multimedia asset for DepoView DVD authoring. This feature is very beneficial to the legal videographer who currently captures raw DV-AVI video directly from mini-DV tape as part of an internal video production workflow. It eliminates the need for MPEG-2 hardware encoding solutions and increases efficiency in the production process. Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (Windows and Mac), Microsoft Movie Maker (version 2.1 or higher), and WinDV have been confirmed to create Microsoft DV-AVI files that can be used with TimeCoder Pro v5.2 and the DepoView DVD Creator. Click the following link for details.
Yes, running TimeCoder Pro v5.2 within the Parallels Desktop for Mac is supported. The recommendation configuration is as follows:
Use multimedia assets encoded with the proper attributes to ensure an expedited and more reliable DVD authoring process. In addition, use Double Layer (DVD+R DL) media if the video exceeds 2 hours, and if possible, run the DepoView DVD Creator on an Intel Core2Duo PC to expedite the process.
Yes. DepoView DVDs include import files for TrialDirector, CT Summation iBlaze and Enterprise, LiveNote, and Sanction. Once a DepoView DVD is imported, you can:
Yes. Simply create a bitmap graphic that is 72 DPI and 280 x 120 pixels, name it Logo.bmp, and save it to the VendorData folder. In addition to replacing the logo, you can update your vendor contact information in the DepoView DVD Creator at any time.
Yes, if your PC/Mac is equipped with a drive capable of burning to Double Layer (DL) disks and you have DVD-R DL media (also known as DVD-9), you can select the Keep deposition on one DVD option in DepoView DVD Creator. To avoid transcoding, the deposition video must be less than 4.5 hours total.
Easy! Go to your Windows Start menu and select All Programs. Next, select inData TimeCoder Pro 5, then select TimeCoder Pro 5 Update. This will launch a wizard that will compare your version of TimeCoder Pro 5 with the inData Support Web site and automatically update your software if necessary.
The CD-ROM has to include certain files in order for the autorun feature to work properly. Below is an example of a DepoView Volume that has been exported from TimeCoder Pro:
The Export folder is the output directory selected by the user when the DepoView Volume was exported. Within the Export folder, the DepoView Volume folder, named MP072195 in this example, is created. This folder name, MP072195, is actually the Volume ID for the new CD-ROM.
As shown below, the DepoView Volume folder contains sub-directories including exhibit files, import files, media files, and vendor files. The Autorun.inf file is located at the root level of the DepoView Volume folder.
The four folders and the Autorun.inf file are to be on the root of the new CD-ROM. When opening the new CD, one should see the above pictured tree, if not, the autorun feature will not function properly.
If you want to replace the inData logo with your business logo in the embedded DepoView Viewer, follow these instructions:
The speed and accuracy of TimeCoder Pro is partially dependent upon the quality of the audio stream that it's evaluating. If the deposition being processed has excessive noise or was encoded on low quality equipment, TimeCoder Pro's evaluation becomes more complicated, which can affect speed and accuracy. In such instances, the problem is with the media, not TimeCoder Pro.
